My husband is out of town this week and I am by myself with a very busy toddler, and a new baby who has a bad cold. I can’t say I was excited about him leaving. I already don’t get enough sleep and it’s worse with this sickness we have in the house! Also, I think my baby is teething… is that even possible yet? With Chris gone, I will need to get up and change all the diapers, feed the baby, and also get up and feed my toddler breakfast in the WAY TOO EARLY hour he decides it’s time to wake.
Well, lately I’ve been trying really hard to enjoy the little moments in each day and to be thankful for my kids no matter what the circumstance. That has been difficult for me in this stage of life. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my kids! SO MUCH. But when I don’t get any rest or space because my newborn wants to be held and nurse 24/7, my toddler is throwing tantrums and drawing on the walls and jumping off the piano, and my dogs need to be at least walked and fed, and my husband needs to be…well…fed and loved and paid attention to, it just seems like life isn’t so easy and I might just collapse. It’s easy to complain. Easy to feel like I deserve more.
But… then I remember that life is GOOD. That these are the moments that are stretching me, shaping me, and giving me many beautiful memories. God has blessed me with my family and my situation and it’s how I respond to each moment that really matters. If I am kind, loving, gentle, and gracious, then I am doing what I am called to do. And I can be thankful no matter what the situation.
Today I had to be thankful for the green clock. What is the green clock? Well, it’s the lovely bright yellow clock that turns green when my son is allowed to get up and out of bed. It’s great. You set the time to what you want (so you can sleep in just a few minutes…), and teach your toddler that green means go, and then all is good!
Or is it? As you can see in this picture, my son knows how to turn it to green whenever he wants…. oy vey!
PS….. in all seriousness, this clock is really awesome! (I just need to put it up on the shelf now where he can’t reach it) I HIGHLY recommend it for toddlers.
